A smaller club would need no more investment to have the same chance of making the top flight and its fans will be happy simply to get promoted and won’t start hating the owner at the first wobble in form on the basis of expectations which have nothing to do with the realities of 21st century football.

You’re correct in so much as Manchester United are using their debt to efficiently increase revenue.

However as eluded to in the final paragraph of the article, this may not be the case in the long term should this strategy become ineffective and costs begin to outweigh the benefits their debt funding provides.
