Sunderland is the last kind of club a sensible person would invest in as fan expectations and the actual resources of club, best reflected by the feeble £9 million of matchday income even in the Premiership, are completely detached from one another. A smaller club would need no more investment to have the same chance of making the top flight and its fans will be happy simply to get promoted and won’t start hating the owner at the first wobble in form on the basis of expectations which have nothing to do with the realities of 21st century football.

Thanks for the comment.

You’re correct in so much as Manchester United are using their debt to efficiently increase revenue.

However as eluded to in the final paragraph of the article, this may not be the case in the long term should this strategy become ineffective and costs begin to outweigh the benefits their debt funding provides.

I’m going to make an assumption as to your understanding of serviceable debt based on your post and explain. There is good debt and bad debt. Manchester United are making more money by spending the money than it the debt is costing them. The debt is being managed as such.
